Slugs are hard to detect & pick off as they tend to hide in the daytime. On my stepfather's advice, I set out a saucer full of beer amongst my foxglove overnight, and dammned if the slugs didn't crawl right into it and drown. In a week that flowerbed was virtually slug free.
