a mini-PPF, Lunch with Cardinal d’Este’s Retainers

Over the past year, we’ve had a couple of discussions on creating mini-PPFs, or events-within-events, to explore a specific bit of history.
One of the things I’d like to do at West Collegium 2013* is “Lunch with Cardinal d’Este’s Retainers”. In her book, The Cardinal’s Hat, Mary Hollingworth uses the records of Ippolito d’Este to reconstruct what his life was like. She also goes into some details on the pay and food of his retainers. Form this, and with the help of the Italian courtesy books, I’d like to create a lunch where the students (in groups of four) would get the same lunch d’Este’s retainers would have gotten, and would then have to share it out amongst themselves with the help of a hand-out/guide and probably some advice from roving instructors.
We’ll need to create a menu, probably make beer and bread, figure out trenchers/pitchers/spoons and more details I’m probably not remembering right now.
So, would you take this class?
Would you like to help create it?

I would definately be interested in taking it. I might be interested in helping, say with the beer. But I don't necessarily brew in the proper period way. Keep me posted!

Yes, I would take it. Yes, I would help create it.

Yes, I would brew for it. Yes, I would cook for it. Yes, I would dress as a Cardinal and scold the servants about how much they cost in gibberish italian.

Very keen! Be delighted to help or even eat as a bit of a shill also.

I'd totally take this class!

Not sure what I'd be able to do to help create it, but if there were something within my skill set I'd do it.

this is awesome!

i totally would love to participate in the class but it depends, as always, on work. i am very very much hoping that i will be on a non-teaching fellowship next fall, in which case it's likely i will be away on a research trip when collegium happens. i won't know for a while, but please keep me in the loop. anything that can be done remotely (eg translations / research notes) i'm game for.

Sedany (sp?) Is the site autocrat. The site is in Mountain view if I recall correctly. I don't believe we have a Colleigum Chancellor at the moment, which I think means that Rose is in charge.

Wait, what? That's news to me.

If there's no chancellor, it defaults to the seneschal, currently Baron Antonio Giordano. There is an incoming chancellor, someone told me, but I can't remember who it's going to be. :(

Collegium Chabcellor is listed as a deputy of the A&S Minister on the website. I have a message in to Antonio to check what the law says.

OK I'm running this all in email after thinkinng in Spanish all week, so if you are confused I reccomend giving Antonio a call to make sure nothing was lost by my vacation fogged brain.

The Collegium Chancellor office is a deputy of the A&S Office. If we have no Collegium Chancellor , those duties default to the A&S Minister. The Seneschals office has begun helping arrange for sites and providing site autocrats to the War College Chancellor (EM Deputy), the A&S Minister, and the the Collegium Chancellor. This is done as a courtesy to help lesson the burden of event logisitics on those officers and facilitate havign

And to facilitate holding these Kingdom level events in different regions.

If you still have questions, I encourage calling Antonio.
