It's international book week: grab the book nearest you, open it to page 52 and type in the 5th sentence.
"The word _mouse_ is used as such an endearment in English as early in the Elizabethan period (1567) as above, and at times it too takes on an equivocal sense."

Have you read more than 6 of these books? The BBC believes most people will have read only 6 of the 100 books listed here. Instructions: Bold those books you've read in their entirety and Italicize the ones you started but didn't finish or read an excerpt.

there should be formatting for having seen the movie )

This is the same book meme that went around in June of 2008, but since I've read a few more books, I guess it's worth updating:

A meme, gakked from [info]nibuca and Got Medieval

Go to Amazon. Log in. Search through your order history and report the first two things you EVER bought from Amazon.

The oldest order Amazon has for me is from Feb 1998, The Medieval Kitchen : Recipes from France and Italy. It's a great book and I still refer to it occasionally.
Other 1998 orders include The Domostroi and Platina, on Right Pleasure and Good Health : A Critical Edition and Translation of De Honesta Voluptate Et Valetudine (Volume 168) .

Guess my hobby. :-)

Lists of must-do movies/books/food always fascinate me, for some reason. I suppose it's because I always end up wondering why that movie made someone's list.
This list is Yahoo's 100 Movies to See Before You Die: The Modern Classics. To play along with the meme, paste the list into your own journal, bolding the ones you've seen, and italicizing the ones you'd like to see.
Eta: gurdymonkey’s excellent suggestion to “strike through” any movie where you want your two hours back.

Kindly step behind the cut... )

Thank you, alessandro_bard for singing the KittyCat song at Esfenn and at Crown. And thank you rachaelfleury for just being fabulous.

Do you believe in soulmates?
No. I think the whole concept of there being only one person on the Whole Planet just for me, because I'm  such a special little snowflake to be one of the more destructive memes of modern life. After all, why should I accommodate anyone, or try to improve my relationship skills when my true soul mate will love me, warts and all?

On another topic, I had not idea the word chauvinist came from a person! http://www.randomhouse.com/wotd/index.pperl?date=20000522

"Chicago Tribune columnist Eric Zorn suggests the following test to determine when you became middle-aged: scan his list of #1 summer hits, and the first one you can't hum (even a little bit) marks the year in which you became middle-aged. "
Hmm, it appears my loathing of "rap" music caused me to become middle aged in  August 1997: "I'll Be Missing You" -- Puff Daddy & Faith Evans.
Do I get a delay because I knew songs ten years before I was born?

How many of these best-picture Oscar nominated movies have you seen? I don't care whether you saw them on the big screen, on video, when stuck on a plane or years after they came out. Bold the ones you've seen and add the list to your own journal to create a meme.

Under the cut is the list of best pictures from 1980-2008. My bolded list will be in the first comment.  )

I'm just curious to see how this compares with the "6 of 100" Books meme that went around last month.

Edited to add:

No bold in comments, so my answers under this cut )

I'm such a freakin' lame-o this week, I can't even paste in a meme properly. I can haz do-over?

In 2008, ppfuf resolves to...
Eat more trenchers.
Keep my chocolate clean.
Backup my port regularly.
Pay for my[info]evil_macaronis on time.
Go to cheese every Sunday.
Learn to play the tableware.

And to think, just this week we were considering whether or not there was cheese in heaven. And next year I shall go to worship cheese every Sunday! Heaven must be full of cheese!

The Rules: Post info about ONE Supreme Court decision, modern or historic, to your lj. (Any decision, as long as it's not Roe v. Wade.) For those who see this on your f-list, take the meme to your OWN lj to spread the fun."

Or not. Can YOU name a Supreme Court decision other than Roe v. Wade without looking it up? Before coffee? (In other words, you can copy the info from somewhere, but you should know the name already.)
