12th Night was fun. If anybody out there in LJ land has contact info for Aline (sp?, the arts-display person who had an Italian pitcher in the same style as the Spanish stuff GM and I have been working on) I sure would appreciate getting it. I'd like to talk to her about glazes.

I thought the duchess's ball was fun, but next year we're going to have to take Cuckholds Alle in a Row out of the set list. It was too complex to teach on the fly. I got one suggestion to have a class between court and the ball, I _might_ try that next year, if dinner, time, space, and The Duchess permit.

I miss Siobhán ní hEodhusa. I know she'd be pleased about people being sentimental about her song, To The West, but I wish she was still here. I thought the West Kingdom Chior's version of it in court was very well done.

I sat through most of coronation court, something I haven't done in a while. I thought Uther's speech was heartfelt and appropriate. Of course, later in the evening, I briefly considered blowing in my dance partner's ear and saying "hey baby, can I .....change your tire?".

Now, if I can just cope with the health-foo of GM's mom and my mom (do they plan these things? why can't they take turns?!) and get through the Crosston ball, I'll start thinking about my art goals for 2010.

Ya know, I've been wondering about something. In An Tir, they have their dance ball Friday night. Note: They think of their 12th Nights as 3-day events, which makes sense for them given how far some people have to travel.

For the last few years in the West it seems like the Duchesses Ball has been well attended and appreciated. But I know that I, personally, have felt too tired to participate much because by that time of the day I'm wrung out. So I wonder if anyone else experiances that, and if a Friday night ball would get an even greater attendace because one might be a bit more rested and ready to go Friday night than Saturday night. No strong opinion here, just a thought I had and wondered about.

The year the Westermark hosted 12th Night, the autocrat team really went out of their way to include Friday night and Sunday morning activities, and I think it was one of the best attended and well received 12th Nights we've had in the past several years (amongst other clues, we had to revise the hotel contract several times to add rooms to the SCA block -- to my knowledge, that's never happened before).

Like at any camping event, though, people are reluctant to give up the idea that "official" stuff only happens on Saturday and Fridays are for lounging around in your jeans and Sunday are for packing and getting offsite before somebody catches you and makes you help clean up.

Maybe, let me chew on that idea untill we know where 2011 will be and who's autocrating.

Eilis is autocrating, and it's tentatively scheduled for the hotel in Santa Nella, pending a site inspection to see if they've fixed the problems reported last year.

What sort of pottery/glazes are you needing to talk about? I'm a potter and have been doing a LOT of stuff for over 11 years. I run the potters guild in CAID and I'm helping with the period feast in the West.

Just sayin'.

Hi Mercy, I think we've talked about this before. GM and I are still looking for the right green and purple for the spanish stuff. We did take your suggestion and find a new place to kiln the last batch, an the lower temp was much better than the really-really hot kiln at the art center we were at. -- Crystal
